Afrovelvet and Nate G. (ski) maneuver through sonic soundscapes, coming together to express the woes of Black Americans.

The 3 track EP touches on racial injustice, gentrification, exploitation, and societal opinion of Black Americans. The message evolves with each song in the album, eventually, with the two encouraging a new idea of Black Power.

The EP is melodically ethereal and serene, despite the heavier subject matter. Afrovelvet and Nate Gski compliment each other in their metaphorical lyrics, painting vivid pictures within the EP’s layered soundscape.

Not Just A Body is refreshing, as it addresses important issues, without being overbearing. They mix ambient dancy sounds, with heavier jazzier ones reminiscent of Motown. That raw sound mimics punk music with the spacy ad libs that give somewhat sultry vibes. The use of simple, poetic arrangements create something entirely experimental.

Track Name: Peacocks & Pigeons
I am not beautiful to you
You do not see me when you show off your glamour
I am just a color to you
You do not make room for my advantage
Repeat 1x

How could you doubt me?
How could you doubt me, when you knew nothin’ about me?
I’m not just a body
I’m not a nigga on the streets holding my jockey
I’m not living spotty…
It’s not the 80’s ain’t no poppy in the lobby
How is it that you got me?
Worthless when you live near my property,
What a fucking mockery…
What am I?
This is such inequality.
There colonies,
And they policies.
Forever robbing me pushing me into poverty -
And I don’t believe i’m a minority.
My 9-5 can’t beat monopolies.
So you gon’ feel my animosity -
Now my spots is where you buy your coffee beans.

Chorus 2x
